Biography

Farida Batool is an independent artist who explores Pakistan’s political upheavals and tumultuous history. She frequently showcases her work at international art galleries around the world. Farida received Bachelors in Fine Arts from the National College of Arts, Lahore; MA in Art History and Theory from the College of Fine Arts, University of New South Wales; and PhD from the Centre for Media Studies at The School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London, titled, “New Media, Masculinity and Mujra Dance in Pakistan”. She is currently teaching and heading the Department of Cultural Studies at National College of Arts, Lahore, and has authored a book, Figure: the popular and the political in Pakistan. She is a active member of Awami Art Collective working in public spaces to generate a discourse of peaceful co-existence.
